I Can Be@home

While the children we work with are not at school, we are continuing our visits programme by bringing the world of work into the homes of our I Can Be girls. Working with our partner primary schools, and our volunteers, the girls ‘meet’ a new professional every week...

How it works

Each week we send the girls their latest I Can Be@home ‘Activity Pack’. The pack is a weekly webpage where they:

  • watch a video in which one of our volunteers tells the girls about what her job involves

  • answer comprehension questions about the job they had learnt about

  • write their own questions to submit to the volunteer

  • complete an exercise about an aspect of the working world

  • undertake a creative activity related to the job they are learning about.

The I Can Be team receive the work the girls submit through the weekly webpage.

We also ask the girls to email us photos of their completed creative tasks. Throughout the week we share and celebrate the children’s work in our online gallery!

What are our i can be girls getting up to?

Here are some of the jobs we have introduced the children to…

The girls met a Chief Marketing Officer for a hair dye company
They learnt about how she aims to sell hair products and how she manages a team who create engaging advertisements. The girls were then tasked with designing advertisements for the company that would make people want to buy its products.

The girls met a Neuroscientist
They learnt about her research, and that in the lab she uses equipment such as microscopes and computers to better understand how the brain works. The girls then drew and labelled a diagram to illustrate how their sense organs and brain work together to help them understand what is going on around them.

The girls met a freelance Film Publicist
They learnt about what being a ‘freelancer’ means and how she works with newspapers, magazines and websites to publicise upcoming films. The girls then went on to create captivating film posters that would help promote their favourite films.

You can follow what the girls have been doing on our Twitter and Instagram pages.
